YAMAL LNG is an integrated project encompassing natural gas production, liquefaction and shipping. The Project consists of construction of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant with an output capacity of around 16.5 million tons per year, using the South Tambey Field as a resource base. The field’s proven and probable reserves, by PRMS standards, are estimated at 926 billion cubic meters. Extensive transportation infrastructure is being built in the scope of the Project, including a seaport and the Sabetta Airport.
Attracting external financing to complete the project demanded strict compliance to the relevant International Finance Corporation (IFC) Performance Standards on Environmental and Social Sustainability, including the first application of Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) principle in the Arctic.
In partnership with all stakeholders, “EthnoExpert” developed complex measures to stimulate the economic development of Indigenous People and local community. The process is to proceed with respect to traditional way of life and taking into account institutional structures and customs. The Project has successfully passed audits on IFC PS compliance, as well as FPIC, resulting in the closure of the project financing package.
