As part of a collaboration with the British Embassy in Moscow, the Carbon Trust and EthnoExpert have been working with the Moscow Exchange (MOEX) and RAEX (a Russian rating agency) to raise awareness on and promote the uptake of TCFD-aligned disclosure in Russia. The project consisted of running a series of webinars and developing written guides on sector-specific guidance on the TCFD, inclusive of practical how-tos for implementation. The webinars and guides covered the following sectors: Power Utilities; Oil & Gas; Agriculture, Pulp and Paper; Ferrous Metals; and Banking.

Five TCFD sector specific guides are freely available to Russian companies and other relevant audiences.

The climate change analysis trend is putting forward an agenda for investors and boards of directors – when making strategic decisions, ignoring climate risks is going to be much more expensive. Meeting investors’ requirements to disclose climate related financial information at the end of the day will result in improved trust and an expanded circle of potential investors and lenders.

The disclosure of climate-related information in order to provide this information to investors, creditors, insurance companies and all interested parties opens up new opportunities and prospects for businesses. Addressing the various types of risks associated with climate change is gradually becoming a powerful tool to help companies demonstrate their commitment to sustainable development goals, reap additional economic benefits and reduce the environmental impact and climate change on the planet.

Along with the investment community, some credit institutions are taking a broader perspective upon evaluation of customers’ ability to pay and the process of making credit products integrating Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) and climate indicators specifically into the project evaluation system.
